Hasan Sentenced To Death In Fort Hood Mass Shooting

(Fort Hood, TX)  --  Nidal Hasan is getting the death penalty for the 2009 massacre at Fort Hood.  It took military jurors just over two hours to reach their decision in the 17 day trial.  Hasan, who acted as his own attorney, never disputed carrying out the shooting and hardly spoke in court at all.   He never released a motive because a judge ruled he couldn't use defending the lives of Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq as his defense.  Prosecutors say Hasan didn't want to be deployed to Afghanistan.  He was convicted of 13 counts of premeditated murder last week.

The sentence means Hasan loses his rank of Army major, plus all pay and benefits.  He gets an automatic appeal whether he wants it or not.  The family of two victims are expected to publicly comment on it later today.
