Myck Kabongo declares for NBA Draft

AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas sophomore guard Myck Kabongo has declared himself eligible for the 2013 NBA Draft, he announced Friday. Kabongo will forego his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility.

Kabongo only played the final 11 games of the 2012-13 season due to a 23-game NCAA suspension to start the year. During those 11 contests, he led the team in scoring (14.6 ppg), assists (5.5 apg), steals (2.0 spg) and minutes (37.3 mpg) and ranked second in rebounding (5.0 rpg). Kabongo reached double figures in scoring in eight of the 11 contests, including a career-high 31 points in the home overtime victory against Oklahoma (Feb. 27).

In his two seasons in Austin, Kabongo played and started 45 career games and averaged 10.8 points and 5.3 assists in 32.2 minutes per contest. For his career, he converted 138-of-345 (.400) field goals, including 33-of-106 (.311) from three-point range, and 178-of-249 (.715) free throws.

Kabongo was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and team captain at Thursday night’s annual team banquet. In his freshman season, he claimed All-Big 12 Honorable Mention accolades and earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Rookie Team.
